How stress can cause weight gain

Hi everyone my name is Saira and today i'm talking about How stress can cause weight gain?

Stress can have a significant effect on your ability to maintain a healthy body weight. It can also prevent you from losing body weight. Whether it is the result of high levels of a stress hormone called cortisol due to unhealthy behaviors caused by stress or a combination of the two which is the link between stress and weight gain.

How Stress Can Cause Weight Gain?

Numerous  research studies have been used that show that an increase in cortisol levels also called stress hormone can be a major cause of weight gain. Whenever you are under stress, your adrenal glands release adrenaline and cortisol and because glucose is the main source of energy,it is suddenly released into your bloodstream. All this is done to provide you with energy so that you can avoid  any  dangerous situation. It is also known as a fight or flight response. Once your body realizes that the risk has been reduced, your high levels of adrenaline are depleted  and your blood sugar rises. This is when the cortisol hormone enters  high gear to replenish your energy supply faster.

What Is the Relationship Between Cortisol and Sugar Cravings?

When  sugar supplies your body with energy so fast that it thinks it is needed it is the first thing to reach you when you are feeling stressed. The downside of drinking too much sugar is that your body stores sugar, especially after stressful situations. This energy is usually stored in the form of belly fat, which can be relatively difficult to excrete. And similarly the vicious cycle begins with stress, cortisol release weight gain , desire  for more sugar, more sugar and more weight.

Is There A Relation Between Cortisol and Metabolism?

Even when you do not eat foods that are high in fat and sugar, cortisol  slows down your metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight. In 2015, researchers at Ohio State University conducted a study by interviewing them about the stress they had experienced the  day before, before eating a high-fat, high-calorie diet. After finishing the meal, the scientists measured the metabolic rates of these women. They looked at the rate at which they burned calories and fat and their blood sugar, cholesterol, insulin, and cortisol levels. The, researchers found that  women who reported one or more stressors during the first 24 hours burned 104 fewer calories than non-stressed. This can result in an increase 11-pound in a  year It has also been found that women with stress have higher levels of insulin a hormone that helps store  fat.

What Unhealthy Habits Are Induced by Stress?

In addition to causing changes in hormonal levels in human body, stress can also drive you to engage in numerous unhealthy behaviors, all of which can result in weight gain. The most common unhealthy habit is excessive eating. High levels of cortisol not only make you crave for unhealthy food, but excessive nervous energy can often cause you to eat more than you normally eat. You may find that salting or helping someone gives you some temporary relief from stress but makes it harder to maintain a healthy weight.

Another unhealthy habit is craving for fast food as it is easily accessible. Whenever we are stressed, we jump to eat the first thing we see and which is easily available and accessible which is not always a healthy choice. You may also be more likely to drive through a fast-food place rather than taking some time and mental energy to cook a balanced, healthy meal for yourself. Exercising less when we are stressed is another major problem we faced . With all the demands in your schedule, exercising is the one of the last things on your list. A long commute and hours spent sitting behind a desk can leave little opportunity for physical activity resulting in feeling lethargic and blotted.less sleep in stressful days is also a major problem. Many people report trouble sleeping when they are suffering from stress. And many researches have linked sleep deprivation to a slower metabolism. Feeling excessively tired and lethargic can also reduce willpower and contribute to unhealthy eating habits.

How To Break The Cycle Of Stress or Weight?

When you are stressing out, healthy behaviors such as eating properly and exercising regularly can easily fall by the wayside. Maintaining a proper schedule and routine can help you develop healthy  habits and cope with stress related weights changes. The first strategy is to make exercise a priority. Exercising is a critical component of reducing stress and managing weight. It can help you in addressing both issues simultaneously, so it is essential for warding off weight gain related to stress. Another method is to eat healthier comfort foods. You do not need carbs to make you feel better. One in a few studies has tested the effectiveness of relaxed foods in improving mood and found that eating healthy healthy  foods can also increase negative mood like unhealthy food that's the possibility.

By paying attention to your eating habits can also help you in gaining control over your food consumption. So, whether you use the app to track your food consumption or write down everything you put in your mouth in a  food journal, you can improve your eating habits by paying more attention to what you put in your mouth. Try to drink as much water as possible because  many people go hunger. This confusion can lead to you eating too many calories, which can lead to weight gain. If you have eaten and you are hungry it has only been two hours try drinking some water first. If you still hungry,  you should grab a breakfast.

If your stress and stress-related weight gain is still causing you distress, then it may be the time to seek professional help. Psychotherapy, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), can be very helpful in  coping  with your  stress and weight management  skills.
